Carte de souhait à saveur d’automne !
La semaine dernière Vero a dessiné cette petite fille qui tricote un « chandail » pour un arbre. Elle en a fait une carte de souhait à saveur d’automne dans notre boutique Etsy. Je l’adore, elle est très mignonne ! Si vous avez quelqu’un de spécial à qui vous voulez donner un peu de chaleur en cette période ou le froid est de retour parmi nous, je crois que c’est le support parfait !Caroline Cloutier aka

Doll making: part 2 or A Tribute to Hoodies
Do you remember Keira, our first little fabric / felt doll? When I first imagined her, I had in mind to create a series of 3 dolls: one yellow, one red, and one blue - all hooded. And this little trio, I wanted to proudly name The Hoodies.
I've only gotten to present you Keira, but Caro and I have since created Alice and Colin! Funny thing is they haven't actually made their way into our Etsy shop... It had been a while since we'd updated our work collegues on our Carotte & Lychee projects so we decided, one morning, to bring in and showcase our latest items at the office. At the time, only Keira and Alice were completed... And they were swept up the moment they were displayed! :) I was thrilled!! The only problem was that we had only made one of each and now they were gone! Although the response was fantastic, Caro and I did not have in mind to "mass produce" these dolls and also, since they take up quite some time and effort to create, despite their simplicity, it seemed "The Hoodies" would have to wait a little for their Etsy shop premiere.
So it's now months later, and having said all of this, I will say that they are almost ready! But before officially launching this little trio, I do want to come up with a nice way to present it... Perhaps each with their own little pouch to carry them in? I had fun creating this little doll for a friend of mine :)I can't wait to feature The Hoodies in our shop! It shouldn't be too long now... ;-)

The first time I worked on Keira, I wore a yellow hoody.

The first time I worked on Colin, I wore a blue hoody... Ok, no, this last one was a lie, but I swear I just so happened to wear the same coloured hoodies as the dolls I was making, both times, both purely coincidental I swear! :)

What's up!?!
Tonight, small snowflakes were dancing in the sky and they made me think of the last time we spoke... which was way TOO long ago! Well, time flies and a lot of things happened since our launch party last summer!
First, your overwhelming response to our little project of handmade products was such that we had to take a couple of weeks to restock our inventory! So thank you :)Then, summer became autumn and we listed only one new product : a fabric pinback button we named "Midnight Snack", featuring design pattern in shades of purple and violet. This products is currently available through our online shop here.
Now autumn is slowly becoming winter and Lychee designed two pretty pretty cards for the holidays season. These two lovely cards are available in our shop here.

My Autumn Button
It's already fall... YAY! I used to hate the season. But not anymore! I have found a way to enjoy it: accessories! This may sound silly to some but I love leg warmers and beanies so much that at one point during the summer, I wished it was colder so that I could sport them...
Fall is also great because we get to feature my favourite fabric button from our shop, My Autumn Button. It was the first fabric button I ever assembled (before the birth of Carotte & Lychee!) and to this day, I find its colours and retro-like pattern to be the most charming..!
With the leaves changing colours, Caroline and I thought it would be a good time to take new photos of My Autumn Button. And this post is dedicated to my personal favourites :)

I love purple
I went in vacation in Hampton beach two weeks ago with my family and my sister’s family.
I was on grocery duty and I’ve got disrupted by a fabric store called Jo-Ann located in Seabrook.
There I felt in love with a purple fabric that I immediately bought. With Lychee, we made a new button called "Midnight snacks".
I don't want to puff too much about this but I think it turn out to be a really cool product!

The launch
It has been three days since the official launch of our Carotte & Lychee Etsy shop and I am still smiling!
The idea of a "launch party" came about the same way as the idea of Caroline and I uniting as Carotte & Lychee did, meaning almost jokingly! We opened our online shop back in may but haven't officially announced it to our entourage until very recently; we were waiting to receive some items to make our first line of products complete. And when we did receive everything, well, somewhat, somehow, someone (it was one of us, of that I am certain... sorta :S) joked around about having a launch party! Laughters set aside, we thought it would indeed be a great opportunity to present our creations to our friends. And it was thus decided that the Carotte & Lychee launch party shall take place in Caro's cozy and friendly backyard on a truly perfect thursday evening in august...
When I got started on creating the invitation flyer, it was only natural to me to choose a rocket to symbolize the launch. This worked out wonderfully as it led to rocket buttons (exclusive gift for the first 15 peeps to knock on the door!) and kickass rocket shaped cookies!
The few days prior to the big day were busy, exciting, and just a tad stressing..! The invitation was sent out to our friends and peers who responded with an enthusiasm that made Caro and I both happy and nervous! "What will they think?" we wondered while decorating Caro’s freshly baked cookies. The worry soon dissipated as playing with frosting in a tube was too much fun…
So came the day. Food and sangria were set up in the backyard. Balloons hung on the wood fence. Items layed still on our demo table. DJ play your song - all is ready. Our first guest showed up at 5:32pm and everyone else basically started flowing in from then on.
The turnout was just great, great, great! I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a good time! Caro’s basket of homemade/handmade goodies, which was the special attendance prize, drew loads of attention from the girls (and boys too!). The basket contained a pair of feather earrings, a doll (Anne-Sophie!), a squirrel pin, a big fat homebaked chocolate chip cookie and an also big fat jar of homemade strawberry jam… MIAM!
We are so pleased at the amazing response and support we received from all of our guests and we wish to thank you again – as our dear Frede would say, you rock ;-)

Carotte’s lill helper!
We where taking pictures for our shop and my oldest daughter came by to see what we were doing. We decided to include her in some of the pictures. They came out nicely considering the fact that she was moving a lot! I found sometimes its challenging including her in my project. I guess the more she’s going to get older the easier it’s going to get.

Too busy crafting for blogging!
Four necklaces, three pair of earrings (See my "How to" to make feather earrings), one doll and a thousand of pictures later, this blog is a ghost town! I was planning to do some “How to” for some of my projects but I just got overwhelmed... Never less, it’s never too late to start so let’s star today!
The first one is easy: the doll I made yesterday.
It’s super easy because it’s not my idea and I was following the instructions and pattern from “The black apple” available here. If you decide to do this project, make sure to watch the video because I tough the instructions alone were not so clear at one point.
This project was really fun to do. Even though I did not have a printer to magnify the pattern at 150% as it was suggest, I was able to do it anyway. The doll is just smaller and I had to hand sewed the arms and legs in place before I was able to use my machine to sew everything together. I use felt for the face and arms. I also made embroidery for the features of the face because paint on felt does not work so well.

Sky traveller and all the pretty colours
I present to you, *sky traveller*.
I've been debating whether or not I should leave it in black and white. Because you see, I've never considered colouring my drawings in the past. I've always doodled in black or blue ink and it never crossed my mind to add colours. Strange, seeing how I absolutely LOVE colours. I rejoice at the sight of them. The more the merrier. Colours. I wear them. I smell them. I breathe them. I drink some before going to bed.
As I was saying (drifting away is so easy!), colours never made it to the papers I would scribble on. I think it was partly because I never thought I was good at colouring. I remember thinking that since I was 9 year-old. I guess it kinda stuck, eh? But that changed, over the past year. For this I want to thank Miss PASTEL. How I came to dig up these old, dirty and oily pastels, I don't know. All I know is that the smearing of them provides me with uncontrollable joy.
Joy. Uncontrollability. I must say that's a good duo.
I then transferred this new appreciation of colouring onto the computer and it was then that I fell in love... with a default Photoshop brush (I love you 55). Ever since I've taken the habit of scanning my drawings to then digitally colouring them.
But every once in a while, I bite my lip and wonder: should I leave it as it is?
So far I've resolved my dilemna by simply going through my usual process: scanning + colouring. I realized I get to have both; my original as it is, and the colour version, as somewhat a bonus. And I must admit that more often than not, I end up liking the second one... just as much as the black and white ;-)
All to say, this little skytraveller might well be the next print addition to our shop. I couldn't wait to give you a peak. Yay!

* Color or colour ? *
For those whose left eye twitched whenever they saw the word colour written with a u, thinking "this girl can't spell", I will say that I am a proud Canadian (don't I time this well, it's july 1st in less than 24 hours - Happy birthday Canada!) and that I follow the Canadian English spelling, in which the word colour contains a u. How interesting, eh???

Still waiting
We are still waiting for our 1” button to complete our summer set. We’ve already received our Moo mini-card bookmarks and Moo Postcards couples of weeks ago already !!!! I’m still much exited about them. I was waiting for the set to be complete before showing you a sneak peak. But today, I’m tired of waiting so there they are :) I just LOVVVVVVE those design from Lychee !!!!

Baswell! (French version of bummer – I guess!)
I’m in pain. I've hurt my back a week ago. I was barely able to move myself. Luckily, my mother in law came over to help me with the kids while I was lying in bed with ice to help reduce the swelling :(
I’ve spent so much time in bed that I had plenty of time to work on my felt pin for the store. I even made a new version of Victor the cat. I really like this new version witch have a more sneaky attitude than the old one !

Lychee's first post
So after watching tonight's episode of American Idol (yes, I am one of those... Go Davids!) and moving between my atelier and the living room, catching glimpses of the horrible-horrible (yes, it needs to be stated twice) Hell's Kitchen, I realized "hey, we have a blog and I haven't even touched it!" Shame on me...
Oh but what a treat it was to login and see two new posts from my partner in crime, Caro! You can always count on her to get things moving and that applies to just about anything! Just take this blog, for example. I mean you'd never find "blogging" on her to-do list, because let's face it, blogs are useless! But here she is, taking her precious time to write, to share the fun details of this newly undertaken but already favourite project of ours - the freshly launched Carotte & Lychee shop on Etsy.
This must be one of the coolest collaborative work I've ever had the chance to be part of and I am so excited and happy it's actually happening! A huge reason why this project has been progressing smoothly and accordingly is that I am a spoiled brat who is lucky enough to be working with a friend who's got a head on her shoulders and well, is kickass. In her Sunday post, Caro wrote:

Cuties!
Yesterday, we made a very funny shooting for our store. For our profile they recommend using a picture of us. Vero once made me realize that a LOT of Asian makes either a peace sign or a “cutie” sign (AKA pointing your cheeks with your finger while smiling) on their pictures. We don’t understand quite why they often do that. But we’ve made a pledge to also make “cuties” sign on all important pictures we are taking for the last few months!

Le processus d’achat sur Etsy
Voici les étapes à suivre pour faire un achat dans notre boutique.
- Ajouter un article dans votre panier d’achat : Pour ajouter un article, vous n’avez qu’à cliquer sur le bouton vert « Add To Cart » dans la colonne de droite sous le prix de l’article de votre choix.
- Magasiner : Si vous souhaitez ajouter des articles supplémentaires dans votre panier d’achat, cliquez sur le bouton gris « Keep Shopping » et vous serez ainsi renvoyé à la page précédente.
- Passage à la caisse : Lorsque vous êtes prêt à passer à la caisse, cliquez sur le petit panier d’achat bleu au haut du site. Puis cliquez sur le bouton vert « Checkout » sur la page de votre panier d’achat.
- Adresse : Après avoir saisi votre adresse, vous verrez apparaître les frais de livraison pour votre commande. Si vous avez fait plusieurs achats dans différentes boutiques, veuillez prendre note que les commandes seront traitées respectivement par chacune des boutiques dans lesquelles vous aurez fait des achats.
- Confirmation : Lorsque vous arriverez à l’étape qui vous permettra de soumettre votre commande, vous pourrez réviser celle-ci ainsi que les frais d’expédition. Vous pourrez aussi nous entrer un message comme un code de coupon rabais si vous en possédez un.
- Paiement : Le dernier écran du processus d’achat vous montrera votre reçu. Mais attention, votre achat n’est pas encore tout à fait complet! Assurez-vous de cliquez sur le bouton de PayPal afin de nous faire parvenir votre paiement.
Pour visualiser les détails de votre commande, vous n’avez qu’à vous connecter sur le site de Etsy et d’aller ici : Your Etsy > Purchases.
- Vous pourrez vérifier l’état de votre commande (payée, expédiée, etc.)
- Visualiser votre reçu (prix, adresse de livraison, informations sur notre boutique, informations pour nous contacter, etc.)
- Vérifier les détails de vos achats (Par exemple, vous n’avez qu’à cliquez sur le nom d’un article pour revoir son affichage original dans la boutique)
